Woe To Those

‘Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help, who rely on horses, who trust in the multitude of their chariots and in the great strength of their horsemen, but do not look to the Holy One of Israel or seek help from the Lord.’ Isaiah 31:1 (NIV).

God warned Judah that turning to Egypt and other nations for military help could not save them. Only God could do that. But Judah refused to wait upon the Lord in quietness and trust.

The people trusted in human help rather than God’s and sought protection from those who were powerless compared to God. They decided to serve their own interests instead of God’s and thus they didn’t even consult Him. Instead of repenting of their sinful ways, they continued to ignore God and seek counsel amongst pagan nations.

Salvation comes from God alone. It is good to seek help from others, but we must never bypass God or his instructions to us. If God has given us directions and we are not in agreement with them, don’t go looking elsewhere hopeful for different advice.

Whether God’s instructions sit well with us or not, He knows the beginning and the end of a matter and because of His great love towards us, God will always give us directions that are clearly for our good.

Prayer:

‘Heavenly Father, forgive me for putting my trust in anything or anyone else other than you. Help me to lean closer upon you, especially in the difficult seasons of my life. Thank you that you are always there to guide me.’

In Jesus’ Mighty Name,

AMEN!

Final Thoughts:

Because God has saved us, we can trust Him and be peacefully confident that He will give us strength to face our difficulties and the challenges that we face. Psalm 118:8-9 reminds us that, ‘It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in man.

It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in princes.’ Can we trust God to guide us here on earth and to our eternal destination? Do we trust Him more than any human being? Remember the times in the past that God has faithfully given us all that we need. What holds us back from trusting Him with the days to come?

Be Greatly Blessed!
