With The Help of God

‘So the wall was completed on the twenty-fifth of Elul, in fifty-two days. When all our enemies heard about this, all the surrounding nations were afraid and lost their self-confidence, because they realized that this work had been done with the help of our God.’ Nehemiah 6:15 (NIV).

The enemies said it couldn’t be done. The job was too daunting and the problems were insurmountable. However, the men and women of God under the leadership of Nehemiah overcame the obstacles and finished building the wall in just fifty-two days. The vision that Nehemiah saw when he was a cup-bearer for the king, became a reality with God’s help every step of the way.

We must never let the size of a task deter us from doing it. With God’s help it can be done. When opposition builds up against completing the work, it is tempting to pray, “God deliver me from this work, it is too hard.” But let’s consider the example of Nehemiah, when faced with a great work and increasing opposition.

He prayed that God would strengthen his hands (Nehemiah 6:9) and God honored that simple prayer. We have access to the same God as Nehemiah and can pray that same prayer. God will answer and help us to complete the task He has asked us to do. And when it is finished, our enemies will know that God honors and strengthens His people.

Prayer:

‘Heavenly Father, help me to stay faithful to the work you have set before me. Help me to know that you are beside me, encouraging me, guiding me and sustaining me. Help me to be strong in the face of opposition that comes from within and without.

In Jesus’ Mighty Name,

AMEN!

Final Thoughts:

Are we struggling to stay focused to the work that God has called us to? Even the enemies from within, such as tiredness, apathy and disappointment can misdirect our focus. Yet in the midst of difficulty there is an opportunity to call out to God and see His hand strengthen and sustain us. Let’s continue to persevere and trust God with the small faith that we have. We will not be disappointed as we see God reach out to help us.

Be Greatly Blessed!
