From Haran To Canaan

‘Now the Lord said to Abram, “Go from your country and your kindred and your father’s house to the land that I will show you. I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you, and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing.’ (Genesis 13:1-2)

Beloved, our heavenly Father has prepared a promised land for you.

It’s flowing with milk and honey. You’ll drink from wells you did not dig, eat from vines you did not grow, and live in houses in you did not build.

You’re destined for greatness. God desires to lift you up. To elevate you to high standing.

You’ve been blessed to be a blessing.

Will you heed His call? Will you move from Haran to Canaan as Abraham did?

It may seem unfamiliar at first. Uncomfortable even. But do you trust in your possessions and achievements? Or do you trust in the unwavering goodness of God?

For surely He will not let you down. His presence will go with you. His blessings will follow you. His favour will surround you. His strength will support you. His love will enrich you.

Whatever God has called you to do, wherever God has called you to go, He will also provide the grace that’s more than sufficient to see you through.

So will you follow God today? Will you let Him lead you to the promised land?

Be Greatly Blessed!

Prayer:

Father, you’ve called me for greater things.

You’ve called me into a dynamic faith in your son Jesus Christ.

I want to move from Haran to Canaan and experience all you have for me.

Help me, lead me, and guide me.

May your presence, blessings, and favour always be with me.

Bring me to the promised land flowing with milk and honey, so that I may be blessed to be a blessing.

In Jesus’ Mighty Name,

AMEN!

Additional Thoughts:

Imagine that today God asked us to leave the security of our home, all our friends, our job, and all that we knew to be familiar and safe. And He asked us to travel to a place known only to Him. That may feel like clutching tightly at the end of a rope while we dangled over a bottomless empty void below. The rope would be called ‘faith’ and the void ‘uncertainty and unknowing.’ And more than likely we would be feeling fearful, with a keen dependence on that rope. When God called Abram he may have felt just the same way.

The journey from Haran to Canaan was the journey from belief in God to faith in God. Yes, we are called to believe in Jesus, and like Abram, God calls us to something far greater: to a newfound faith in Him; to a love affair with Him and a lifestyle that is completely dependent upon Him. Faith is being sure about God’s goodness, even when we’re uncertain about everything else. The essence of our faith is based on the reliability and trustworthiness of God alone. We trust in God’s goodness even when we cannot cling to or depend on anything or anyone.

Through his journey, Abraham learnt that God is reliable and wants us to live and not die, to grow and flourish, not to stagnate and wither and to live a life of hope and peace, rather than fear and torment.

Like Abraham, we can step from Haran into the land of Canaan and see God’s mighty hand of provision rest upon us. We can move from just belief in God to a sustaining and enriching faith in our Father, whose goodness and grace is always more than sufficient for us.

Trust in God’s goodness. Follow Him into the promised land. And rest in the perfect peace of Jesus.
