Simple Reminders

‘Then Jesus said to him, “Someone gave a great dinner and invited many. At the time for the dinner he sent his slave to say to those who had been invited, ‘Come; for everything is ready now.’ But they all alike began to make excuses.”‘ (Luke 14:17-18)

Beloved, what are your priorities today? How often do we keep Jesus as our main priority? Or do we often get caught up with the daily happenings in life that Jesus gets pushed to the back seat?

Perhaps we are not so different from the dinner guests, invited to the sumptuous banquet, who were full of excuses.

The demands of our job that rob us of time with the Lord have come first. Or we’ve been chasing after the pleasures of this world and have given little thought to the Master’s invitation to sit at His feet and listen to His voice.

Running a home, or attending to small children has consumed our energies so that we have nothing left but the dregs of our offerings to bring to God.

Whatever our excuse, it may seem justifiable to us now, however, putting the dealings of the world first instead of Jesus drains us of the strength and life that comes from resting in His finished work.

The devil likes to create fires here and there so we’re always running to and fro to put them out. In our frenzy, we forget to keep Jesus as our priority and receive His torrentous shower of blessings.

God says to us today, ‘Come, I am waiting to enjoy sweet fellowship with you. I want to offer you a banquet of delight in my presence. Leave behind the lesser things, and come enjoy something for more satisfying and substantial.’

God wants us to put out full attention on Jesus, not because he wants to ‘hog’ us, but because He knows that when we put Jesus as our main priority, the devil flees and his plans crumble.

It is time to reconsider our priorities? Are we truly seeking first the kingdom of God?

Do we really love Him in entirety? Or are we only giving Him part of ourselves, and when it suits our circumstances.

We may fool ourselves by justifying our excuses and saying we still love God, but that achieves nothing.

For where your treasure is, there your heart is also.

Come, let’s accept the invitation Christ offers to us. Today, and each day after, set aside time to sit in His presence, and meditate on His word.

Nothing else matters for now. We can leave behind the urgent matters and attend to what is most important.

Sit at Jesus’ feet like Mary and do the one thing needful. Enjoy His presence, blessings, and love.

Be Greatly Blessed!

Action Steps:

It’s often easy to be distracted by our daily work and chores.

But it’s especially during hectic times that our spirit needs the refreshing from God all the more.

Isn’t it interesting that some people both have the time and can remember to have a 10-minute smoke break every once in a while throughout the day, but yet finds it difficult to have 5 minutes of quiet time with the Lord?

I submit to you that spending time with the Lord is more refreshing, more effective, and more beneficial for your soul, than smoking or gossiping.

You can use simple reminders throughout the day to bring your focus back to Jesus.

e.g.
– Using and image of your favourite Bible verse on your phone’s home screen or lock screen.

– Sticking a post-it note with your favourite promises from God at the side of your laptop screen or on your fridge.

– Set recurring silent alarms (vibration only if you don’t wish to disturb others around you) to take a prayer break and commune with God. Tell Him your struggles and victories throughout the day. Ask Him for His help. Let His Word and Promises nourish your soul.

Try it. Use simple reminders to keep Jesus at the centre of your day.

You’ll find yourself more refreshed, less stressed, and more blessed.

Prayer:

Father, help me to keep Jesus as the main priority of my life.

Sometimes when things get busy, I tend to get distracted and shift my focus away from what’s truly important.

Teach me and guide me, that I may use simple reminders throughout the day to reset my priorities and choose Jesus over the affairs of the world.

I’m so blessed to have Jesus in my life.

I’ll continually commune with Him, praise Him and receive all that He’s died to give me.

Thank you Father. Please continue to bless me and keep me throughout the day.

In Jesus’ Mighty Name,

AMEN!
