Be Still

‘Be still and know that I am God! I am exalted among the nations, I am exalted in the earth.’ (Psalm 46:10)

Beloved, still your heart, mind, and spirit.

Listen, for God’s declaring His love and blessings for you.

Do not be disturbed by the illusions of the world.

Turn your eyes away from the turbulent waves. Look to Jesus and be transfixed by His majesty.

Exalt Him, together with all heaven and earth.

For He alone is worthy.

Be still. The Almighty God fights for you.

You need only be still.

So go into your position of rest.

Relax. Trust in the Lord.

He’s got it handled.

He’ll take care of you.

For you are His favored child.

The one to be blessed forever and ever.

So be still. Rest in His promises and trust in His love.

Be Greatly Blessed!

Prayer:

Father, slow me down, quieten my mind and help me to rest in your love.

Steady me and ground me in you.

Remind me that you are God.

You control all things, and you have called me to relax, to smile, to be joyful and to trust in you.

And so I will.

In Jesus’ Mighty Name,

AMEN!

Additional Thoughts:

The Hebrew term used for ‘be still’ is ‘rapah’, which means relax. ‘Relax, because I’ve got it all in hand’ says God to us today. But few of us really know how to relax for very long. We are more than likely to take all our concerns back into our lap and fuss, hurry and scurry around trying to keep all the balls juggling in the air. And that is because we have forgotten –again- that God is God.

Many of us are great workers for God’s cause. We are on committees, we are volunteers, involved in groups, out many nights a week. We are busy in good, commendable works, we are efficient at helping God establish His kingdom. However, when it comes to sitting still for a moment and relaxing in God’s presence to receive His directions, empowering and resources, we are unable to do so. We have become so serious about God’s work, that we the idea of relaxing and lightening up in His presence seems foreign. There is a fine balance between the inward journey and the outward journey, between action and contemplation. We are not very good at getting that balance right. For every challenge in scripture to action there is also an invitation to abide, rest, remain or wait.

In our busyness for God we often don’t take the time to stop and comprehend what He has done for us. The saint’s journey with Christ ought to be about what He is doing, rather than what we are doing for Him. Truth be told, God is less interested in our doing. He is concerned in who we are becoming. Followers of Christ are to become people who are not burned out on works, but filled up with praise and adoration for God. Life has become too serious if we cannot stop for long enough each day to praise and thank God for His blessings.
