Safe Passage

‘Paul gathered a pile of brushwood and, as he put it on the fire, a viper, driven out by the heat, fastened itself on his hand. But Paul shook the snake off into the fire and suffered no ill effects.’ Acts 28:3, 5 (NIV).

After being shipwrecked in a violent storm Paul and his fellow travelers found themselves washed up on the island of Malta, south of Sicily. While Paul was preparing a fire a venomous snake latched onto his arm, but brought no illness.

God had promised Paul safety and that he would stand trial before Caesar (Acts 27:24), so no snake bite was bound to interfere with God’s plans.

Our lives are in God’s hands, to continue or end in His good timing. Life is volatile. We are each in a line waiting to face our Maker. Some go before us, least when we expect it. Our health may appear favorable, and yet an illness can suddenly, unexpectedly appear and our time on this earth is short lived.

And yet others, who are experiencing sickness seem to last much longer. There is often no rhyme or reason to the way God orders our lives. Yet if God has work for us to do and is not finished with us here as yet, He will provide safe passage on this earth until our time is over.

Prayer:

‘Heavenly Father, thank you that you care for me. You are always loving and kind and your faithful love never ends. Help me to remember that you fill me with all that is good each day and give me safe passage on this earth until you call me to my eternal home.’

In Jesus’ Mighty Name,

AMEN!

Final Thoughts:

In times of illness, that are debilitating and alter the way we live each day, we can still be encouraged and have hope. God may not have finished with us yet. Our lifestyle may be limited, but He will show us how to live faithfully and joyously for Him. That just may look different to the way it has been before.

As long as God wills for us to keep living for Him in our circumstances, He will provide us with safe passage here on this earth. In the meantime, we trust and delight in His goodness to us. Can we give God the honor by trusting that our days are held safely in His hands?
