Made for Eternity

‘He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end.’ Ecclesiastes 3:11 (NIV).

God has ‘set eternity in the hearts of men.’ This means that we can never be completely satisfied with earthly pleasures and pursuits.

C.S. Lewis one said that ‘if I find in myself a desire which no experience in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that I was made for another world.’ We are pilgrims passing through to a better, richer, more beautiful and more lasting place (1 Peter 2:11). We are indeed made for eternity.

Because we are created in God’s image we have a spiritual thirst that physical entities will never satiate. We have eternal value in God’s eyes, were made for friendship with Him and nothing but being in the eternal God’s presence can fully satisfy us. Our hearts will be restless till they find their rest in Him.

God has built in each of us a yearning for the kind of perfect world that can only be found in His perfect rule. He has given us a glimpse of the perfection of His creation. But it is only a brief glimpse, the best is yet to come. And every believer who longs to be with the Father, yearns for that day when He returns, and we will spend eternity with Him in that beautiful new creation (Revelation 21:1).

Prayer:

‘Heavenly Father, give me faith, hope and courage to live among a people who do not know you. Help me to long for nothing on this earth as much as I long for your return and my eternal home with you.’

In Jesus’ Mighty Name,

AMEN!

Final Thoughts:

It is only natural to feel dissatisfied, tired and empty with what is on offer in this world. Sometimes we feel like nothing really offers the fulfillment we are looking for. And nothing in this world ever will.

We are made for eternity and to be eternally in God’s presence. Until then we wait, with hope and with faith in God’s promise that He will return in full glory to take us with Him into eternal glory.

Because we are loyal to God, we will often feel like strangers in a world that does not know Him.

Be Greatly Blessed!
