‘Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, and he saved them from their distress. He sent forth his word and healed them; he rescued them from the grave.’ Psalm 107:19-20 (NIV).
These words offer hope to those who have made a mess of their lives.
There is no need to remain wallowing in the misery of past mistakes and bad choices.
By receiving God’s free gift of forgiveness, anyone can begin a new life and break with the past.
In Micah 7:18-19 we are reminded that God gladly forgives when we turn to Him, admit our sin and choose to follow His ways.
‘Who is a God like you, who pardons sin and forgives the transgression of the remnant of his inheritance?
You do not stay angry forever but delight to show mercy.
You will again have compassion on us; you will tread our sins underfoot and hurl all our iniquities into the depths of the sea.’
What hopeful words for those of us who are struggling just now or carrying the heavy burden of wrong decisions.
We can come freely to our God who freely pardons.
There is a new life waiting to be found in Jesus.
‘Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!’ (2 Corinthians 5:17).
By faith in Christ, we can break addictions, heal painful memories, and restore broken relationships.
If we ask Jesus to take control of our lives, He will answer us.
His love reaches even those who have rebelled against Him.
His love for humankind is beyond understanding and for those of us who call out to Him for mercy, Christ’s love is there waiting for us.
Romans 8:35-39 is a reminder that nothing in all creation can separate us from the love of Christ Jesus found in a new life with Him.
Paul boldly declares to us today, ‘For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Prayer:
Dear Lord, I need this new life in you, for I have walked far from your ways.
Show me how to follow you obediently.
Thank you for your love for me and that I can have a fresh start because of you.
AMEN!
