‘Timothy, my son, I give you this instruction in keeping with the prophecies once made about you, so that by following them you may fight the good fight, holding on to faith and a good conscience. Some have rejected these and so have shipwrecked their faith.’ 1 Timothy 1:18-19 (NIV).
Having a clear conscience is no easy feat in a society that is lackadaisical about honesty and truth. So how can we hold onto a good conscience in a time where people stretch the truth to suit their own means? We must treasure our faith in Christ more than anything else and do what we know is right in our heart and before Him.
Each time we deliberately ignore our conscience, that is, the voice inside that helps us to discern right from wrong, we are hardening our hearts. And if this continues over a period of time our capacity to tell right from wrong will diminish. Paul says that those who reject those inner promptings, are those who have shipwrecked their faith.
However, as we walk with God, He will speak to us through our conscience, letting us know the difference between what is pleasing to Him and what is not. When we act on these inner urges, and do what is right, our conscience will remain clear and we will be walking with integrity in all things.
Prayer:
‘Lord, I have found myself compromising on the good choices I ought to be making as a child of God. Forgive me. Though it may be difficult at times, help me to do all things with a clear conscience before both you and others. Thank you.’
In Jesus’ Mighty Name,
AMEN!

Final Thoughts:
Are we tempted to compromise on a choice of action which may seem easier, but less than honest? We can talk ourselves out of any right choice if we want to. Lying is just stretching the truth a little, cheating is just borrowing another’s idea or work and stealing is just lending something with the intention to return it – eventually.
If the Holy Spirit is bringing to mind an incident that is searing our conscience, it is time to turn to God and ask for His forgiveness.
Be Greatly Blessed!
